What is active citizenship?
In its simplest form, active citizenship means getting involved in your community.

Looking out for and helping those that need support and also behaving in a way that promotes mutual respect, fairness, inclusion and a sense of belonging for all.
Giving up your time to help a newcomer belong to the community.
Raising money to help others through a bake sale, fun run or talent show
Organising a group to clean up the school, local park or town centre
Helping at a not-for-profit, such as the animal shelter or charity shop
Whatever your school does to encourage active citizenship is fine; our goal for Aussie of the Month is simple. We seek to educate all young people about the importance of community participation and looking out for those who need support.
Discover how you can implement Aussie of the Month, demonstrate the values and encourage active citizenship with the Curriculum Ideas Calendar.
