A citizenship ceremony is an uplifting celebration of community, as our newest citizens make a pledge of loyalty to our country and our people. For those of us who are already citizens, we too can participate at these events by saying the Australian Citizenship Affirmation. The Affirmation can also be included as part of other gatherings and ceremonies, including your regular school assembly.

Just as we sing our national anthem Advance Australia Fair, saying the Affirmation gives everyone in the community the opportunity to reflect on what it means to be Australian and affirm our loyalty to Australia. It’s a wonderful way to bring the whole community together to celebrate our values.
